Chief Building Engineer

Job Description:

Our client in Norwalk, CT is currently in search of an experienced Chief Building Engineer while the ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of relevant work experience. Not only that, but this person will also be responsible for serving as a Property Manager while the duties associated with this role with vary between those related to building maintenance and property management.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Generally responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance and repair of all building systems, which includes HVAC, water treatment program, electrical, lighting, plumbing, energy management, fire protection, structural, hardware and keying
  • Install, fabricate, construct, troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical and electrical equipment with minimal support or no supervision at all
  • Receive work assignments and plan all work that is to be performed while also obtaining the necessary tools, equipment and materials
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the equipment being serviced in addition to employing service procedures and techniques indicative of first-class work
  • Follows inspection and service procedures outlined in the preventive maintenance and loss control programs
  • Always follow operational and safety procedures
  • Responsible for keeping the shop, equipment rooms and common areas clean, organized and safe at all times
  • Assist with the technical training and upgrading of skills of less qualified personnel
  • Inspect all areas of the building and report deficiencies as well as suggestions for improvement
  • Assist with the monitoring of contractors, inspection of work and generating deficiency list
  • Must be open to occasionally working extended hours, nights, weekends or holidays in order to ensure adequate building coverage
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies such as fires, flooding, severe weather (i.e. snow and ice removal), power outages and other situations including clean-up activities
  • Responsible for the monitoring and implementation of OSHA requirements for the property
  • Responsible for the effective execution of the loss control, preventive maintenance and service call programs
  • Serve as the building`s Property Manager while being entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing substantial investments in human resources, property, tenant-related issues, budgets, buildings and equipment - and much more as needs arise
  • As Property Manager, direct and/or oversee the operations of the team, budget administration, maintenance, energy management and sustainability, leasing, construction, security, lease administration, collections, tenant relations, insurance, reporting and real estate taxes

Requirements:


  • Comprehensive training and certification in HVAC or Operating Engineering Technologies and/or equivalent job-related training and experience
  • Licenses(s) for applicable jurisdiction and equipment
  • Certification or enrollment in program Universal CFC certification required
  • Minimum of 10 years as a Building Engineer or equivalent field experience
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Strong computer skills necessary to operate and diagnose problem associated with Building Automation Systems
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA, NEC and NFC codes and regulations
